Jacques Yves Cousteau was born on June 11, 1910 to Daniel and Elizabeth Cousteau in the French town of Saint-Andre-de Cubzac. From a very early age he showed talent and interest with marine life, inventing, science, and avation. At the age of 30, he entered the Ecole Navale (French Naval Academy), and became a gunnery officer. However, a severe car accident changed the course of his life, and history. He no longer had the ability to fly ever again, due to his injury, so he turned to the sea, and the life long trance it held him in. Later he served in Toulon, France, aboard the Condorcet, where his love for creating and inventing went from a spark to a flame. While on the Condorcet, he was sent all over the world. Japan, Shanghai, and the USSR to name a few.In 1937, he married Simone Melchor, and had two sons with her; Jean Michel (1938) and Phillippe (1940-1979). He also had children with Francine Triplet: Diane (1980) and Pierre (1982); however, nobody knew of his secret family until He married Triplet in 1991 after Simone passed away due to caner a year before. In 1943, he created the first French underwater documentary( Par dix-huit mètres de fond or 18 meters deep) , which impressivly was made without a breathing apparatus!
Unfortunately, i couldn't find "18 Meters Deep" but, here is a very early Cousteau film, showing his inventions (aqualung, scuba suit, underwater camera)
