Unfortunately, Jacques Cousteau died on June 25, 1997 from a heart attack. But throughout his long career, he influenced and changed thousands of people's lives. In 1992, he was invited to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the International Conference on Environment and Development, for the UN. After that, he became a frequent consultant for the United Nations and the World Bank. He impacted the world; but especially his native country of France, so much, that they named a street after him, which went to his house (rue du Commandant Cousteau).
